Elrian met some Fairies and she remembers their faces- in her diary.
There is this beautiful way to write English in a writing system suitable for an East Asian character. It’s called square word Calligraphy.
I practiced a bit before the larp, but writing this is actually easier than it looks, so I was able to get into it very quickly.
During the larp I still used a reference and I need quite some time to write a sentence. But it’s so much fun. I definitely want to use it more often
I still haven’t started working on the Luinil pages, so here are the pages I did before the Larp.
These are songs in Sindarin, the first being “The Fall of Gil-Galad”.
I took the translation by Ryszard Derdzinski from elvish.org and the melody my father made years ago.
The second one is a compilation from all the A Elbereth Gilthoniel stanzas from both the books and the movies. Some of them I edited to fit the four-line pattern.
I started Elrian’s Diary in summer 2011, continuously documenting my Larp character’s adventures.
After four years and 70 pages it is now halfway complete.
Here is the working process of a recent page.
After sketching the content of the page – which I often do while in-character –
I rewrite the text and outline the illustration in ink.
Next is removing unnecessary graphite and colouring the page with watercolour.
Sometimes I add some details in white or silver afterwards.
Not all the pages are this elaborate and well planned. Some are just scribbled notes I took in character and twice I even ripped out pages when my character wanted to get rid of them.
Elrian’s diary is a project I started two years ago, and its original purpose was to collect plot information the character acquired during role play conventions.
But after while I started to put in personal stuff that went through my characters head. Its purpose is now to collect both information about plot (which will be written in normal writing) and personal notes (written in Tengwar). And I am planning to make its style a mix of the current design and River Song’s Diary from Doctor who.
These are the current pages:
